Betsy is a software engineer with a passion for using software for social good. Before joining the team at EarlyBird, Betsy worked as an elementary school teacher for 7 years. She got her start teaching with Teach for America in the Mississippi Delta, and eventually moved to Brooklyn to work at a charter school called Achievement First. Through teaching, Betsy saw firsthand how beneficial early literacy intervention is, and the great impact it can have on a child’s life. Betsy became interested in coding by teaching students how to code in an afterschool program. Since switching to tech, she’s been excited to find innovative ways to improve the lives of students and teachers.
Betsy has a M. Ed. from Johns Hopkins University as well as a B.A. in Communications from Miami University of Ohio. She studied full stack web development at the Grace Hopper Program at Fullstack Academy, a program designed to get more women into technology.
The Magic Tree House Series! Each book takes the reader on a whirlwind adventure, and I thought that was the coolest thing ever. I always wanted to be as adventurous and curious as Annie, but also as strategic as Jack.
